Position Overview

Summary: This role acts as a vital connection between Aquinas College and prospective undergraduate candidates. In line with our Strategic Plan 2030, the Admissions Counselor will contribute to a student-focused Undergraduate Admissions Office, dedicated to assisting students and families throughout the recruitment journey. The Admissions Counselor will effectively communicate the College's academic offerings and the enrollment process, including admission and financial aid guidelines, to all student demographics served by the Admissions Office.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify potential candidates and foster application submissions from a designated area through diverse recruitment techniques, including evening and weekend engagements.
  • Strategically plan and manage outreach efforts within the assigned territory using various communication methods, personal meetings, alumni engagement, and faculty/staff collaboration.
  • Act as an admissions representative between the Undergraduate Admissions Office and other campus departments as necessary.
  • Assess and analyze applications for completeness, admission eligibility, and scholarship considerations.
  • Coordinate and conduct high school visits and participate in college fairs within the designated area, which may encompass major urban regions.
  • Prepare and monitor travel plans (over an average ten-week period) within the assigned territory, submitting travel and expense reports weekly.
  • Exhibit comprehensive knowledge of all student services, including the admissions process, financial aid options, academic programs, and campus life.
  • Provide education to prospective students, families, and educational organizations during individual appointments on campus and group presentations both on and off campus.
  • Participate in all on-campus recruitment activities, including Information Sessions, Open Houses, scholarship competitions, and special group initiatives.
  • Attend off-campus recruitment events as required, including senior awards nights and college decision-making discussions.
  • Assist in the effective execution of additional admissions functions as needed.
  • Support the recruitment of nursing, international, dual enrollment, and transfer students.
  • Work on assigned Saturdays to accommodate students who cannot visit during the week.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and analytical tracking of territory using CRM tools.
  • Follow up on all forms of correspondence, including written, verbal, and digital communications.
  • Participate in all admissions staff meetings, providing updates on assigned projects and territory.
  • Stay informed on trends in higher education and developments within the college.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution or two years of college combined with two years of direct admissions experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and effectively engage with students and their families; experience as a student ambassador or tour guide is advantageous.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Self-motivated with strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders, including high school counselors, faculty, and alumni.
  • Proficient in using databases for tracking, reporting, and data analysis; familiarity with CRM and SIS systems is preferred.
  • Knowledge of marketing principles and experience with social media is beneficial.
  • Willingness to extend beyond prescribed roles to support the admissions team's objectives.
  • Commitment to collaboration and innovative problem-solving.
  • Valid Driver's License and ability to travel as required.
  • Availability to work unconventional hours, including weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to thrive in a dynamic team environment.
  • Capability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous recruiting experience.
  • Familiarity with the metro Detroit and/or Chicagoland area.

Work Environment:

  • Ability to function effectively in a busy environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Regular use of computer and telephone.
  • Occasional lifting may be required.
