Job Summary

As a key member of the Honda Purchasing Department, the Procurement Specialist will be responsible for performing tactical and strategic buying activities to support cost, sourcing, delivery, and supplier management functions.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Provide coordination and leadership in procurement activities for commodities with high dollar value and/or critical materials for manufacturing operations.
  2. Develop supplier and part strategies and maintain good supplier relationships.
  3. Solicit and evaluate proposals employing appropriate negotiation, cost, and price analysis techniques, using available expertise from supporting organizations.
  4. Implement purchase contracts following applicable company policies and procedures and government regulations.
  5. Evaluate the existing supplier base, determine potential sources, obtain bids, and make necessary changes to support future materials requirements to meet business needs.
  6. Track and confirm delivery of all parts to customer, by maintaining timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other required documents.
  7. Initiate necessary actions to assure best value is received, customer delivery requirements are met, and address any manufacturing problems at supplier facility.
  8. Participate in developing part and supplier strategies to achieve quality, cost, and delivery availability objectives for the company.
  9. Complete projects on time, within budget, and/or set targets.
Requirements

The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree with a minimum of three (3) years of procurement experience or seven (7) years of procurement experience in a manufacturing setting, preferably in the aviation industry. An engineering background with proficiency in project management is a plus. Experience with contract negotiation and administration is also required.

The candidate should have a proven track record in cost reduction and development of strategic sourcing strategies. They should possess a working knowledge of ERP systems and the ability to work with suppliers to track and monitor part shipment and inventory management of components. A technical understanding of manufacturing processes and engineering drawings, preferably in Aerospace, is also desirable.

  • Strong project management skills with the ability to develop strategic plans, coordinate projects, and communicate changes and progress.
  • Ability to lead the entire sourcing process from start through completion in coordination with a cross-functional team (quality, manufacturing, engineering).
  • Flexible and able to generate innovative solutions in work situations; trying different and novel ways to deal with work problems and opportunities.
  • Ability to thrive in pressure-filled situations with aggressive timelines.
  • Must possess the ability to think both analytically and strategically and then be able to develop and implement strategy.
  • Proven analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task to manage job responsibilities both within and outside job specifications.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work within an international environment.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft.
Work Environment

The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain conditions require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, mandatory hearing protection, and safety shoes.
