Position Summary
The Margin Clinical Pharmacist will collaborate with the Margin team to offer precise recommendations for drug therapies and enhance the medication management process for patients.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate physician medication orders for suitability regarding drug selection, medical billing, dosage, potential interactions, and administration routes.
- Support the dispensing and fulfillment operations of the infusion pharmacy across the network.
- Propose therapy modifications to physicians and facility staff as necessary.
- Conduct continuous assessments of products chosen for each patient to ensure medication appropriateness based on their health conditions.
- Make informed decisions to approve or deny claims accurately.
- Review past approvals to confirm appropriateness of losses and ensure reimbursement is current.
- Identify opportunities for brand-to-generic conversions to reduce patient copay costs.
- Serve as a primary resource for internal stakeholders regarding medical and drug information inquiries.
- Identify and address problem areas effectively, coordinating with cross-functional teams including Operations, IT, Finance, and Procurement.
- Maintain an accurate patient database that includes relevant medical history, clinical data, and concurrent medications.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to provide necessary clinical and technical support.
- Document all communications with healthcare professionals and patients in the medical record.
- Address inquiries related to drug information from both internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy or PharmD; a Master's degree in accounting or finance is preferred.
- Minimum of one year of experience in specialty or infusion pharmacy practice.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of pharmacy laws and regulations regarding pharmaceutical care for infusion patients.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities.
Licenses and Certifications
- Current pharmacist licensure in at least one state or US territory.
- Credentialing from Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) such as Board Certified Oncology Pharmacist (BCOP) or Board Certified Pharmacotherapy Specialist (BCPS) is desirable.
Physical Requirements
- Regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to walk and use hands; occasionally required to stand and reach.
- Must be able to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 30 pounds occasionally.
