Summary: The Healthcare Access Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between the hospital/system and its customers, including patients, healthcare providers, and various departments. This role is essential in facilitating patient registration for both inpatient and outpatient services.

The Healthcare Access Coordinator is responsible for ensuring that patients have seamless access to the hospital/system while adhering to all registration, business, and administrative protocols associated with each patient interaction.


Responsibilities:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ Minimum of one (1) year of experience in hospital registration or administrative roles (e.g., Medical Assistant, Patient Service Specialist, Secretary, Unit Clerk) in a healthcare environment is required. In the absence of qualified applicants, those with the following qualifications may be considered:

+ High School Diploma or Equivalent
+ Six (6) months to one (1) year of experience in hospital registration or administrative roles (e.g., Medical Assistant, Patient Service Specialist, Secretary, Unit Clerk) in a healthcare environment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
+ Familiarity with Medical Terminology, including ICD-9 & ICD-10, and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) Codes is preferred.
+ Understanding of Medical Necessity ABN regulations is preferred.
+ Proficient in general office skills, including computer/keyboarding skills, with a typing speed of at least 30 wpm and demonstrated computer proficiency.
+ Knowledge of various insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid, and private/commercial insurance is preferred.
+ Familiarity with eligibility tools such as Healthenet, Omnipro/Connex, EPACES, and other web-based resources is preferred.

  • Ability to maintain composure in diverse customer interactions and situations.
  • Highly motivated and willing to contribute skills and ideas for departmental improvement.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
+ The employee must demonstrate sufficient dexterity for keyboarding and word processing tasks.
+ Must possess the stamina for prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
+ Ability to efficiently maneuver registration equipment is required.
