Position Summary

The Patient Service Representative (PSR) serves as the initial point of interaction for patients entering our facility. This role is pivotal in delivering an exceptional patient experience, ensuring that customer service remains our top priority. The PSR will engage in a variety of tasks associated with patient reception and registration, providing essential support to our Physical and Occupational Therapy Department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Exemplify our Core Values, focusing on patient-centered care, teamwork, service excellence, accountability, and innovation.
  • Confirm appointment and insurance details; input registration data into Medent.
  • Facilitate registration processes for both new and returning patients, gathering all necessary demographic, insurance, and payment information; clarify insurance eligibility and coverage details to patients as needed.
  • Collect copayments, manage cash drawer, and document weekly/monthly financial totals.
  • Recover outstanding payments owed to Excelsior.
  • Handle and direct incoming phone calls efficiently.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists and patients to streamline the scheduling process.
  • Act as an intermediary between patients and the billing department regarding any billing inquiries.
  • Access registrations through the patient portal.
  • Verify referrals and authorizations prior to finalizing patient appointments.
  • Complete patient checkout paperwork at the end of each visit.
  • Schedule follow-up appointments as necessary.
  • Utilize knowledge of medical terminology, particularly in orthopedics.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Required Skills and Experience
  • Outstanding customer service abilities, including proficient written and verbal communication skills.
  • Associate's degree preferred; a high school diploma or GED is mandatory.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in a medical office setting; experience in patient registration is preferred.
  • Experience with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) is required; familiarity with MEDENT is a plus.
Physical Requirements
  • This position necessitates manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
  • Involves standing, sitting, and walking throughout the workday.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are essential.
