Position Overview:
ObjectiveTransportation Research Center Inc. is in search of a research engineer to join the crashworthiness division, dedicated to enhancing and refining testing methodologies for assessing motor vehicle safety. This area of research involves innovative vehicle design, safety enhancements, and tools aimed at improving occupant protection. The focus is on the dynamics and mechanics of vehicles, their occupants, and other road users, ensuring safety during collision scenarios. The selected research engineer will manage projects that may involve creating testing protocols to assess injury risks in accidents involving passenger vehicles, motorcycles, or other at-risk road users; conducting research on crash test dummies and their components; and formulating testing procedures related to vehicle structural integrity and restraint systems for various crash types, including frontal, rear, side, rollover incidents, and child restraint systems.
Key Responsibilities*Develop, assess, and implement analytical techniques, as well as component and/or full-scale vehicle testing to evaluate occupant biomechanics and safetyApply principles of mechanics and dynamics to comprehend human injury and occupant protection, including SAE J211Innovate testing methods for motor vehicle safety for occupants and other road users, alongside protective gear such as helmetsEngage in thorough analysis of current experimental testing proceduresProvide technical guidance and/or direct involvement in test development, setup, execution, data collection, troubleshooting, analysis, and reporting.

Ensure precise and clear communication regarding the status and outcomes of the aforementioned activities; guarantee that results align with or surpass customer quality standardsEffectively manage multiple priorities, organize tasks, and adhere to deadlinesWork independently while also collaborating within a team environment focused on customer-driven deliverables and milestones*Transportation Research Center Inc.

QualificationsMaster's degree in engineering or a related field, or a Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of relevant experienceA thesis-based degree or dissertation in a pertinent research area is preferredTechnical expertise to address complex, work-related challengesStrong written and verbal communication abilitiesStrong analytical capabilitiesProficient computer skills, including word processing and data analysis softwareExperience in automotive or vehicle safety is preferred
