Engineering Research Specialist

Position Overview:
The Engineering Research Specialist plays a crucial role in conducting and evaluating research across diverse engineering fields. This position involves collaborating with engineers to perform intricate engineering tests and analyses, as well as designing and establishing new standards, protocols, processes, and equipment. The specialist will also prepare technical reports and presentations to support strategic planning and decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
- Understand client testing objectives and effectively communicate these to team members and business units.
- Develop comprehensive work descriptions based on client requirements and an understanding of the involved processes.
- Coordinate project budgets and proposals aligned with client objectives and inputs from relevant business units.
- Create detailed test plans and procedures tailored to client needs and the associated processes.
- Execute tests and compile final reports within established budgets and timelines.

Essential Functions:
- Develop and implement analytical methods and conduct component and full-scale vehicle testing.
- Research a wide range of motor vehicle and mobility safety issues.
- Perform design evaluations of motor vehicle and mobility safety systems.
- Support the development and assessment of fundamental technical proposals.

Other Duties and Responsibilities (Non-Essential Functions):
- Create detailed cost estimates for assigned tasks.
- Establish and maintain project schedules and budgets.
- Draft research papers and technical reports.
- Provide timely and accurate customer support.
- Report research and testing outcomes in a clear format.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve technical project objectives.
- Critically assess and rectify deficiencies in technical proposals, plans, and reports.
- Make informed technical decisions with guidance.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field. Technical expertise to address complex, work-related challenges. Strong communication skills and proficiency in computer applications, including word processing and data analysis software. Basic project management capabilities.
Working Conditions:
Standard office environment with climate control. Laboratory setting may involve exposure to temperatures ranging from below 0 to above 95 degrees. Potential exposure to inclement weather and hazardous substances, such as gases, oils, and paints.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain stationary for extended periods. Proficiency in operating a computer and other office equipment. Effective communication with clients and colleagues. Capability to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds, contingent on specific role requirements. Must be able to maintain a stationary position for prolonged durations and perform tasks involving bending, stretching, climbing, or other physical positions.
