Job Title: Director of Strategic Communications

Fuqua School of Business at Duke University is seeking a highly skilled Director of Strategic Communications to lead our communication efforts and shape the school's reputation across various platforms.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and execute comprehensive PR and communication strategies aligned with school goals and brand positioning.
  • Identify key narratives and storytelling opportunities to enhance the school's reputation and showcase faculty expertise and research.
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with key journalists and media outlets, and oversee the development and distribution of press materials.
  • Manage communications response during reputational issues or emergencies, and develop protocols for handling potential crises or negative situations on social media.
  • Lead and mentor a team of strategic communications experts, and collaborate with the Associate Dean to align communication strategy with school objectives.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 10+ years of experience in strategic communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a proven track record of developing and executing comprehensive PR and communication strategies.
  • Strong media relations skills and established network of media contacts, with experience in crisis communications and reputation management.
  • Exceptional editorial capabilities, with a strong understanding of SEO principles and their application in content strategy.
  • Proficiency in social media strategy and management, with experience in executive communications and ghostwriting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • MBA or advanced degree in a relevant discipline.
  • Experience in higher education, management consulting, startups, corporate communications, non-profit, agency, health care, financial services, technology, media, or international communication and global markets.
