Familiarity with digital acquisition systems is also expected.

The ideal candidate will be highly skilled in recognizing and interpreting waveforms and abnormalities, holding certification from the Sleep Disorders Registry by The American Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and licensure from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners in Polysomnography.

Certification Note:

They must also hold a valid license in both Respiratory Therapy and Polysomnography issued by the State of Louisiana.

Key Responsibilities:

- Conduct various sleep studies as prescribed by physicians, including Multiple Sleep Latency Testing and Maintenance of Wakefulness Tests.

- Calibrate monitoring equipment and accessory parameters prior to each sleep study.

- Administer Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) to patients diagnosed with Obstructive Sleep Apnea, adhering to established protocols.

- Review and analyze patient medical histories to gather pertinent information.

- Prepare patients for testing by applying electrodes according to the 10/20 International System of measurement.

- Educate patients about the testing procedures and provide support throughout the process.

- Assist in the upkeep of departmental equipment and supplies, ensuring all records, reports, and files are maintained accurately.

This role requires timely reporting of procedural delays and outcomes to the charge person, as well as collaboration with inventory and equipment management.

Additional Duties:

The specialist will actively participate in the development of departmental goals and contribute positively to customer service and departmental operations. This position may also involve case management responsibilities, focusing on policy and procedure development, inventory maintenance, and staff training.
