Job Summary

The East Baton Rouge Parish School System is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Instructional Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our school administration, the successful candidate will play a vital role in supporting students, parents, teachers, and administrators in achieving our school's objectives and missions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Academic Intervention: Facilitate academic and behavioral intervention responses to support students in achieving academic success.
  • Student Support: Confer with students, parents, and teachers to address individual student academic and behavioral challenges.
  • Assessment and Evaluation: Use and interpret formative and summative assessments to inform instruction and drive student achievement.
  • Professional Development: Provide knowledge and guidance to teachers on the use of standards, content, materials, and resources to enhance instruction.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Work with teachers to ensure continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the school.
  • Research-Based Practices: Facilitate the use of research-based teaching strategies and best practices to address the needs of teachers, students, and school goals.
  • Staff Development: Organize and facilitate ongoing, school-based professional staff development to support teacher growth and student achievement.
  • Instructional Technology: Demonstrate the effective use of instructional technology and other educational tools to enhance and extend instruction.
  • Informational Literacy: Collaborate with the librarian and other staff members to promote informational literacy and provide resources and staff development.
  • Data Analysis: Review and analyze school-wide data to inform instruction and drive student achievement.
  • Student Support Services: Assist teachers and school counselors in understanding and addressing student-related problems.
  • Resource and Support: Act as a resource for teachers and school counselors regarding student achievement, attendance, behavior, and other challenges.
  • Curriculum Development: Guide curriculum study and coordination between grade levels, departments, and buildings.
  • Classroom Observations: Conduct walk-throughs and observations to ensure classroom alignment with expectations for student conduct and effective teaching.
  • Community Relations: Develop and implement effective community relations programs to support student success.
  • Leadership and Administration: Provide educational leadership by creating an environment conducive to teaching and learning, and administer and supervise all school activities.
  • Student and Teacher Handbooks: Plan, prepare, and distribute student and teacher handbooks.
  • Policies and Procedures: Interpret and administer policies, rules, and regulations established by the school district and school administration.
  • Attendance and Accountability: Establish and maintain processes for daily attendance accounting and monitoring teacher duty posts.
  • Health and Safety: Assist in administering the total school health program, including student insurance, school immunization records, and providing basic first aid.
  • Plant and Campus Security: Assist in providing plant and campus security.
  • Reports and Communication: Prepare and submit reports as required for the effective operation of school facilities.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in a job-related area from an accredited university, with three years of teaching experience and evidence of leadership ability.
  • Certification and Qualifications: Meet the minimal certification requirements for the State of Louisiana for a teacher as outlined by the Louisiana Department of Education.
  • Professional Conduct: Maintain a high standard of professional conduct, adhering to East Baton Rouge Parish School System policy and expectations.
  • Technological Abilities: Proficiency in general computer use, email, and other job-specific equipment, software, and applications.
