Summary:
The Transportation Bus Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting the bus operator by addressing the physical and emotional needs of special education students during transit.
Key Responsibilities:
- Daily travel on assigned routes and special bus trips.
- Attend to the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of special education students on the bus.
- Assist with the safe loading and unloading of special education students.
- Communicate effectively with bus operators regarding any issues related to special education students.
- Respond positively to supervision and accept constructive feedback.
- Exhibit sensitivity and understanding in interactions with individuals from diverse backgrounds and with various physical and mental challenges.
- Compile and analyze data, summarizing information to provide reports to the Bus Driver and Special Education Transportation Supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned that relate to the functions of the position.
Qualifications:
Experience working with children, particularly those with special needs, in structured settings is essential.
Education:
A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Candidates should have completed two (2) years of study at an accredited institution (48 college credit hours) or possess an Associate's degree (or higher) from an accredited institution. A minimum score of 450 on the ETS Parapro Exam is also acceptable. Valid CPR certification is preferred, and a first aid course must be completed within the first six (6) months of employment.
