Position Overview:

The Engineering Project Specialist will be responsible for leading and managing the engineering and design processes for front-end loading studies, transitioning to detailed construction documentation for industrial projects. This role will report directly to the Projects Director and may involve collaboration with a Project Manager or management of smaller projects with direct interaction with client representatives.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Project Planning and Scheduling: Define the scope of engineering and design requirements, estimate project man-hours, and coordinate with various discipline departments.
  • Client Communication: Engage with clients as necessary to ensure project objectives are met.
  • Oversight of Engineering Work: Supervise the work of design and engineering teams, clearly articulating project requirements through engineered sketches and verbal instructions.
  • Presentation of Work: Organize and present project details to design personnel in a manner conducive to effective design execution.
  • Quality Control: Ensure the overall quality and production of deliverable packages.
  • Instruction and Guidance: Provide clear instructions to design staff to facilitate high-quality work.
  • Progress Reporting: Responsible for weekly updates on scope completion, progress, and costs to clients and supervisors.
  • Safety Promotion: Collaborate with the Project Manager to uphold safety standards on assigned projects.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other related tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:

A Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering from an accredited institution, coupled with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the refinery, petrochemical, chemical, or utility sectors; or an equivalent combination of education and experience to effectively fulfill the essential responsibilities of the role.

Licensure:
  • Possession of a valid Driver's License as per state regulations.
  • Professional licensure (P.E., PMP) is preferred but not mandatory.
Essential Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software, with a focus on spreadsheets, databases, and word processing.
  • Exceptional organizational, leadership, and time management abilities.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Adept at interpreting and applying client specifications and procedures.
  • Familiarity with regulatory codes and requirements relevant to the discipline.
  • Knowledge of discipline-specific software applications (e.g., STAAD, Caesar, Pipe Stress).
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and interpret design drawings and documentation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Capability to walk up to one mile on industrial sites in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to work in protective gear that may raise body temperature for short durations.
  • Proficiency in using multi-level stair towers and ladders independently.
  • Ability to hear safety alarms while using hearing protection.
  • Capacity to sit at a desk and operate a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to stand, use hands and fingers, grip, reach, climb, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and communicate effectively.
  • Visual acuity to distinguish colors and details.
  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Regularly lift and carry up to 15 lbs, with occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs.
