Product Development Engineer

Location: Liberty, SC


Company Overview: Reliable Automatic Sprinkler Co. is a prominent manufacturer in the fire protection sector, specializing in fire sprinklers and system valves. Established in 1920, we are also a key distributor of comprehensive fire sprinkler system components and fabricated piping solutions.

Role Overview: We are seeking a dedicated individual to contribute to the fire protection industry's mission of safeguarding lives and property.

Position Summary:

The Product Development Engineer is responsible for the design and enhancement of new and existing products, focusing on improvement and cost efficiency while collaborating with sales and manufacturing teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead all stages of product development from conceptual design to production readiness.
  • Develop, document, and manage project plans from initial concepts through to production.
  • Oversee new development initiatives, including timelines, budgets, tooling, and regulatory approvals.
  • Create solid modeling designs to ensure design integrity.
  • Conduct evaluations for stress analysis, fluid dynamics, material strength, metallurgy, and machine design elements.
  • Plan and budget for comprehensive product development projects.
  • Review engineering drawings for accuracy, dimensional tolerances, and completeness.
  • Participate in product testing and validation at national laboratories to secure necessary approvals for new and revised designs.
  • Ensure a safe working environment by adhering to safety protocols and reporting any hazardous conditions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, and metal stamping.
  • Familiarity with drafting, design, prototyping, and testing methodologies.
  • Understanding of regulatory testing requirements.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Creo Software.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
    • Master's Degree is preferred.
  • 10+ years of engineering experience in mechanical design or a related field.
    • Experience with sprinkler systems and plumbing standards is preferred.
