About the Family & Social Services Administration: The Division of Family Resources (DFR) within the Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) is tasked with determining eligibility for Medicaid, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), and Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits. The division ensures the timely and accurate distribution of SNAP and TANF benefits and offers employment and training services to certain recipients. DFR focuses on supporting and preserving families by promoting self-sufficiency and personal responsibility.

Salary Information: The starting salary for this position is typically $37,648.00, but may vary based on education and experience.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review eligibility recommendations and information submitted by contract staff.
  • Determine eligibility for appropriate benefits and waiver programs in accordance with state and federal regulations.
  • Analyze data matches to identify inconsistencies and unreported information.
  • Approve claims referred and calculated by contractors.
  • Conduct comprehensive eligibility interviews for SNAP, TANF, and Medicaid applicants.
  • Stay updated on changes in rules, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to individual benefit programs.

Qualifications for Success:

  • Willingness to travel with reasonable accommodations.
  • In-depth knowledge of public assistance policies, practices, and procedures.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations related to public assistance programs.
  • Proficient in computerized eligibility systems.
  • Ability to identify issues, assess alternatives, and implement effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated tact and empathy when interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Discretion in handling sensitive client and employee information.
  • Effective communication and interviewing skills.
  • Flexibility and self-motivation in managing multiple priorities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Basic mathematical skills.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position may involve supervisory duties based on agency requirements.
