Position Overview
The Clinical Pharmacist Specialist plays a vital role in the healthcare system by ensuring the safe and effective use of medications within a hospital environment. This position is essential for optimizing patient outcomes through expert pharmaceutical care.
Key Responsibilities
As a member of the pharmacy team, the Clinical Pharmacist Specialist will:
- Utilize extensive knowledge of pharmacotherapy to review and verify physician orders, ensuring accuracy and appropriateness of medication therapy.
- Monitor patient medication regimens, making necessary adjustments in accordance with established protocols and clinical guidelines.
- Provide education to patients regarding their medications, focusing on proper usage, potential side effects, and interactions with other therapies.
- Supervise and mentor Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring compliance with state regulations and organizational policies.
- Conduct regular audits of medication inventory and manage narcotics control to maintain compliance with legal and safety standards.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals to enhance medication management processes and improve overall patient care.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess:
- A Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or a PharmD.
- A valid pharmacist license in the state of Texas.
- Experience in an inpatient hospital pharmacy setting is preferred.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and on-call hours as needed.
