Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Support Specialist to join our team at the Alaka`ina Foundation Family of Companies. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional animal care and support services to our government customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist veterinarians and research personnel with examinations and procedures, including animal handling and restraint.
  • Clean and sanitize animal rooms, facilities, and equipment to maintain a safe and healthy environment.
  • Administer clinical treatments, including topical, oral, subcutaneous, intravenous, and intradermal injections, to critical and chronic animals.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and animal medical records.
  • Recognize changes in animal clinical condition indicative of complications or emergency situations and alert veterinarians and/or research personnel.
  • Accurately calculate drug dosages and administer clinical treatments.
  • Monitor basic animal vital signs, including temperature, pulse, and respiration rate, before, during, and after surgery.
  • Perform anesthesia recovery and post-operative care for animals.
  • Ensure all pertinent supplies related to protocols are available.
  • Schedule and coordinate surgical, ICU, after-hours, and ABSL2 calendar events, procedures, and protocols for contracted staff.
  • Place percutaneous vascular lines and perform intravenous cut downs for vascular access.
  • Credentials Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians and Laboratory Animal Veterinary Technicians in all aspects of their areas of expertise within 45 days of new hire.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT) or Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) certification required or must be obtained within 12 months of hire.
  • At least 2-4 years' laboratory experience desired.
  • Experience with anesthesia and providing animal veterinary technical support in a DoD environment preferred.
Clearance Requirements
  • Must be eligible to work in the U.S.
  • Must be able to pass a NACI background check.
