Position Overview:
At Houston Methodist, the Acute Care Nurse Specialist is entrusted with the role of a licensed registered nurse and healthcare provider, delivering comprehensive patient care, which encompasses diagnosis, treatment, and consultation while fostering and enhancing patient health.

This role may encompass both inpatient and outpatient settings, adhering to the nurse practice act of Texas and collaborating as part of a multidisciplinary treatment team.

The Acute Care Nurse Specialist exemplifies empathetic communication with patients, physicians, and the healthcare team, while also educating patients on preventive care and prescribed treatments. Responsibilities may include conducting physical examinations, ordering diagnostic tests, and serving as a primary healthcare provider, with the authority to prescribe medications as deemed appropriate.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Leadership and Advocacy: Acts as a clinical resource, interprofessional consultant, and advocate for patients. Identifies opportunities for staff development and provides mentorship to achieve professional growth.

2. Communication: Effectively communicates organizational information and clinical practices in a respectful manner, fostering a positive environment among staff.

3. Collaboration: Works alongside the interprofessional healthcare team to coordinate and manage patient care, advocating for patients and families to address clinical and ethical concerns.

4. Quality and Safety: Functions as a quality care provider, promoting patient safety and assisting in the development of protocols to enhance care standards.

5. Financial Stewardship: Implements departmental strategies to meet financial objectives while mentoring others in efficient resource utilization.

Qualifications:
1. Education: Master’s degree in Nursing.
2. Experience: Minimum of two years in registered nursing or advanced practice clinical roles.
3. Licenses and Certifications: Valid Texas RN license, APRN certification, and other relevant certifications as required.
