Position Overview

Contribution of Health System Pharmacy to Cardinal Health

The Pharmacy Operations team is dedicated to ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective management of Cardinal Health's pharmacy services that cater to acute care hospitals, retail pharmacy clients, outpatient care, and various specialized practices.

Health System Pharmacy focuses on delivering tailored pharmacy program solutions aimed at reducing expenses and enhancing the quality of patient care for hospitals and integrated healthcare providers. This role may also involve consulting with healthcare teams regarding prescribed medications, supplies, and related processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Utilizes extensive knowledge of pharmaceuticals and associated protocols to validate physician medication orders through the pharmacy information system. Evaluates drug and dosage in relation to the patient's condition and addresses system alerts regarding medication specifications.
  • Oversees Pharmacy Technicians to guarantee compliant and efficient pharmacy operations. Reviews all Technician work in accordance with State Board regulations and provides guidance on complex prescriptions and pharmacy automation systems.
  • Modifies dosages based on established protocols, ensuring appropriateness for the patient's condition and concurrent medications, while also completing clinical tasks related to antimicrobial stewardship.
  • Educates patients on the correct usage and anticipated effects of medications, particularly when patients are on multiple prescriptions or are being discharged.
  • Manages narcotics and inventory compliance, including thorough documentation and checklist completion. Conducts audits of expired medications in accordance with regulatory guidelines.
  • Communicates with nursing and medical staff as needed to confirm orders and gather additional information.
  • Assists the Pharmacy Director in maintaining pharmacy accreditation and implementing operational changes, including new systems or adjustments to standard procedures.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy or PharmD.
  • Must hold a valid Pharmacist license in the state of Texas.
  • IV certification is preferred.
  • Experience in inpatient hospital pharmacy is preferred.
  • Willingness to work various shifts and cover on-call hours.
  • Effective communication skills for interaction with customers and healthcare professionals.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Proficient in utilizing multiple pharmacy information systems.

Compensation: Anticipated hourly range of $69.60
