Position Details:

As a Registered / Certified Substance Abuse Counselor I, you will contribute to the community by providing face-to-face rehabilitative programming services within the Integrated Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program (ISUDT).

This is a Non-Exempt position with a pay range of $37.00 (Depending on Credentials). The working hours are from 12pm to 8:30pm.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver treatment programming services to participants through group and/or individual sessions.
  • Effectively implement the scheduled program curriculum, leading and participating in face-to-face group and individual meetings using motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral therapy, and other therapeutic methods.
  • Engage with participants daily, reinforcing group rules and expectations for participation and completion.
  • Collaborate with participants to develop and implement treatment/action plans, educating them about supportive networks as they reintegrate into the community.
  • Review treatment plans, assess and document treatment progress, noting visible changes in participants' appearance, behavior, and demeanor.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and confidential records for participants, evaluating and documenting their progress.
  • Complete all necessary documentation, summarizing participants' backgrounds, treatment plans, and recovery outcomes.
  • Coordinate with transition/reentry staff, preparing transitional documents as directed for ongoing community program activities.
  • Work collaboratively with various stakeholders, including CDCR, DRP, CCHCS, and institutional staff, while supporting and collaborating with co-faculty.
  • Participate in training sessions, including monthly, block, cross-training, curriculum training, and technical assistance training as appropriate.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Less than one (1) year of experience providing Substance Use Disorder Treatment services as a certified AOD Counselor.
  • Current AOD Certification from an organization recognized by the DHCS OR Registration with BBS or an AOD Certifying body, depending on educational background.
  • Understanding of the causes, symptoms, and effects of substance abuse, along with an appreciation for the behavioral, psychological, physical, and social impacts of drug abuse.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge of MS Office Suite and ARMS (preferred).
  • Ability to maintain sensitivity and objectivity under pressure when working with substance abuse treatment participants.
  • Exhibit ethical behavior to uphold professional standards and protect participants.
  • Safeguard the health, safety, welfare, and confidentiality of program participants' records and information.
