Position Overview

As a key member of the Health Services team, the Substance Abuse Counselor plays a vital role in supporting individuals and families facing challenges related to substance use. This position involves providing comprehensive counseling, educational initiatives, and preventive measures within the Alcohol and Other Drugs unit.

Essential Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid California Motor Vehicle Operator's License
  • Certification as an Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Counselor
  • A minimum of 30 semester or 45 quarter units in relevant academic disciplines
  • At least 1 year of professional counseling experience in a substance abuse setting
Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting thorough intake evaluations and delivering counseling services to individuals, families, and groups
  • Creating personalized recovery plans and facilitating referrals to additional resources
  • Actively participating in outreach initiatives to represent the division
  • Maintaining accurate client records and engaging in follow-up activities

  • A minimum score of 70 is required to be considered for the employment list
