Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) serves as a pivotal member of the Executive Team, reporting directly to the President and CEO. This role encompasses the leadership and management of a diverse array of daily business functions within the Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA), overseeing a team of X employees. Key areas of responsibility include Business Development, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, Office Administration, and Marketing, Communications/Public Relations.

This position is integral to all Board and Board Committee activities, functioning similarly to a Chief of Staff.

The COO's role is essential in streamlining processes, enhancing productivity, and aligning resources to propel the organization's growth and success in accordance with MEDA's strategic objectives. This position guarantees compliance and operational efficiency, transforming long-term strategies into immediate, actionable steps.

The COO will initially lead and manage a team of ten employees and will engage with all organizational members.

Key Responsibilities

· Directs the organization’s business resources, processes, and systems to enhance overall operational efficiency and effectiveness.

· Collaborates with the President and CEO to act as a liaison for the Board of Directors and all Board Committees. Serves as the staff leader for the Board Governance Committee, providing onboarding for new board members. Works alongside the President and CEO to develop and finalize all Board Meeting agendas and materials. Coordinates with the Executive Assistant to prepare annual calendars for both Board and Committee meetings.

· Develops and leads marketing, communications, and public relations strategies. The COO will advocate for MEDA's services across various internal and external digital media platforms.

· Guides the MEDA team in all Corporate and Community Engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; an MBA is preferred.

Experience

- A minimum of 20 years of professional leadership experience, including at least ten years in executive and senior leadership roles, with a proven track record of business growth and success.

- Experience in banking operations is preferred.

- Proven experience working with Boards of Directors is required.

- Experience in both nonprofit and corporate settings is preferred.

- Demonstrated success in managing multiple facets of business operations, including Business Development, Administration (security/facilities), Vendor Management, Human Resources, and Marketing/Communications.

· Ability to represent the organization at all levels within the community, government, and institutions.

· Proficient in communicating internally and externally with all levels, including key external stakeholders.
