Position Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) plays a pivotal role within the Executive Team, reporting directly to the President and CEO. This position is responsible for overseeing a diverse array of daily operational functions at the Metropolitan Economic Development Association (MEDA), managing a team of X employees. Key areas of focus include Business Development, Quality Assurance, Human Resources, Office Administration, and Marketing/Communications.

The COO is integral to Board activities and functions similarly to a Chief of Staff, ensuring smooth operations and effective governance.

This role is essential for streamlining processes, enhancing productivity, and aligning resources to propel the organization’s growth in line with MEDA's strategic objectives. The COO will ensure operational compliance and efficiency, transforming long-term goals into actionable strategies.

Initially, this position will lead a team of ten and engage with all organizational members.

Key Responsibilities

· Directs the organization’s operational resources, processes, and systems to enhance overall efficiency and effectiveness.

· Collaborates with the President and CEO to serve as a liaison for the Board of Directors and its Committees. Acts as the staff leader for the Board Governance Committee, facilitating onboarding for new board members. Works alongside the President and CEO to develop and finalize agendas and materials for Board Meetings, coordinating with the Executive Assistant for annual meeting calendars.

· Develops and leads marketing, communications, and public relations strategies, promoting MEDA’s services across various digital platforms.

· Guides the MEDA team in all Corporate and Community Engagement initiatives.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is required; an MBA is preferred.

Experience

- A minimum of 20 years of professional leadership experience, including at least ten years in executive and senior leadership roles, with a proven track record of driving business growth.

- Preferred experience in banking operations.

- Required experience working with Boards of Directors.

- Experience in both nonprofit and corporate sectors is preferred.

- Demonstrated success in managing multiple operational areas, including Business Development, Administration (security/facilities), Vendor Management, Human Resources, and Marketing/Communications.

· Ability to represent the organization effectively at all levels within the community, government, and institutions.

· Strong communication skills to engage with all levels of stakeholders, both internally and externally.
