Job Overview

Position Summary

The Vice President of Business Development is responsible for overseeing the organization's business development and sales initiatives, either directly or by leading a team of supporting personnel.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Formulating and executing comprehensive sales strategies aimed at fulfilling corporate growth objectives.
  • Establishing strong customer relationships and identifying new business prospects within the designated market and customer base, in alignment with the company's growth strategy.
  • Conducting thorough market research to assess customer requirements, including capabilities, technologies, and capacities, to inform opportunity planning and develop effective campaign strategies.
  • Leading the creation and implementation of the business development vision, strategies, and processes that will enhance sales, boost revenue, expand market presence, and meet financial targets.
  • Generating regular sales reports that detail sales performance, potential opportunities, and areas for customer base expansion.
  • Overseeing Bid/No Bid decisions, proposal creation, and the capture of business opportunities, including negotiations and deal closures.
  • Engaging with key clients and supporting the sales/business development team in nurturing and maintaining relationships.
  • Analyzing sales data to inform policy decisions and assist in capturing leads, while managing unprofitable items within the sales portfolio.
  • Representing the organization at industry association meetings to advocate for product sales.
  • Facilitating communication between the Business Development team and operational leadership to support business development initiatives.

Leadership Responsibilities

Oversee and mentor the assigned business development support team.

Qualifications

To be successful in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill each essential duty effectively. The following qualifications are indicative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required:

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree combined with five to ten years of relevant managerial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Work Environment

While the location is flexible, proximity to the assigned business unit and key clients is preferred. Travel will be necessary to meet the demands of the business unit and customer needs.

Language Proficiency

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret scientific and technical literature, financial statements, and legal documents. Proficient in responding to inquiries from customers, regulatory bodies, or business community members. Capable of effectively presenting information to senior management, clients, and boards of directors.
