Through meticulous empirical research and proactive engagement with the global policy community, we concentrate on the policy intersections of low- and middle-income nations alongside the governments, institutions, and corporations that can be instrumental in fostering significant progress.
Positioned in Washington, DC, the Vice President (VP) for Strategy and Research at CGD reports directly to the President. The VP serves as a strategic partner to the President and plays a crucial role in several key areas, including crafting a vision and strategy for CGD that aligns with significant shifts in the global development and geopolitical environment; overseeing a research framework that culminates in the production of rigorous, relevant, and impactful outputs; and fostering analysis and innovative thinking around critical issues and trends. Furthermore, the VP will possess a robust history of research and publication, which they will continue in their capacity as a Senior Fellow.
Key Responsibilities:- Provide leadership and management of areas related to specific expertise;
- Act as a senior policy fellow, engaging actively in research and analysis pertinent to CGD's mission;
- Assist the President in steering the development of a future vision for CGD that is evidence-based, focused on innovative policy outcomes, and responsive to the evolving development and geopolitical landscape;
- Oversee the formulation and implementation of CGD's strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with program goals and activities;
- Lead a research initiative that supports the creation and dissemination of both academic and policy-oriented research that is innovative, rigorous, and impactful, including through discussions and peer reviews with CGD and external experts;
- Inspire and support research personnel in pursuing ambitious ideas and translating evidence-based concepts into engagement that influences policy outcomes;
- Facilitate collaboration and convenings that generate research on significant cross-cutting issues and trends beyond specific sectors, including projects that span CGD programs;
- Support the establishment and execution of strategic research partnerships, including collaborations with academic institutions and organizations;
- Drive the development and execution of strategic partnerships, in collaboration with program and policy outreach directors, to enhance CGD's policy impact in a dynamic geopolitical and development landscape;
- Collaborate with policy outreach directors to devise and implement strategies that elevate CGD's public profile;
- Manage relationships with funders, in conjunction with the senior director for institutional advancement, to cultivate strong, trusting, and substantive long-term partnerships while ensuring coordinated oversight across grants and funding proposals;
- Work alongside the communications director to amplify the profile and reach of CGD and its research and ideas, utilizing events, press, social media, etc.;
- Engage key stakeholders and the public to enhance the visibility and impact of CGD and its research;
- Participate as a member of CGD's leadership team and lead or contribute to organizational initiatives as assigned.
