The Center for Global Development (CGD) is a non-profit, independent policy research organization based in Washington, DC, and London, UK, dedicated to addressing the critical issues and institutions that influence inclusive development. Through meticulous empirical research and proactive engagement with the global policy community, we concentrate on the policy intersections that affect low- and middle-income countries and their partnerships with governments, institutions, and corporations.

In the role of Vice President (VP) for Strategy and Research at CGD, you will report directly to the President. This position is integral as a thought partner to the President and a pivotal leader in essential areas, including the formulation of a vision and strategy that adapts to significant changes in the global development and geopolitical environment. You will oversee a research process that culminates in the publication of impactful, relevant, and rigorous outputs while fostering innovative analysis and critical thinking around pressing issues and trends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage portfolios aligned with areas of expertise;
  • Act as a senior policy fellow, engaging in research and analysis pertinent to CGD's mission;
  • Assist the President in shaping a future vision for CGD that is evidence-based, innovative, and responsive to the evolving development landscape;
  • Oversee the development and implementation of CGD's strategic priorities, ensuring alignment with program goals;
  • Direct a research process that facilitates the creation and dissemination of both academic and policy-oriented research that is creative, rigorous, and impactful, including peer review by CGD and external experts;
  • Encourage and support research staff in pursuing innovative ideas and translating evidence into actionable policy outcomes;
  • Facilitate collaboration and convenings that generate research on significant cross-cutting issues beyond specific sectors;
  • Support the establishment and execution of strategic research partnerships with academic institutions and organizations;
  • Drive the development of strategic partnerships to enhance CGD's policy impact;
  • Collaborate with policy outreach directors to elevate CGD's public profile;
  • Manage relationships with funders to build strong, trusting, and substantive long-term partnerships;
  • Work with the communications team to enhance the visibility and reach of CGD and its research;
  • Engage with key stakeholders and the public to broaden the impact of CGD's research.
Salary Range: $275,000 - $300,000, commensurate with education, skills, and experience.

CGD operates in a hybrid model, requiring staff to be in the office at least two days per week. Candidates must reside in the DC, Maryland, or Virginia area.
