About the Job

We are seeking a highly skilled Interdisciplinary Supervisory General Engineer/Physical Scientist to join our team at the Department of Energy. As a member of our team, you will play a critical role in managing, supervising, leading, and/or performing administrative and management work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise a team to ensure it addresses program goals, including establishing priorities and ensuring quality and completion of work assignments.
  • Lead or oversee engineering and science-based reviews of OCED projects and programs, including conducting fit for purpose technology evaluations and/or Independent Engineering reviews.
  • Review and evaluate technical aspects of design and construction progress in accordance with established milestone costs and technical requirements.
  • Develop and implement project review methodologies to support decision making.
  • Assist in managing OCED contracts, providing support service contractors and OCED funded activities executed at DOE national laboratories.
Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
  • Subject to satisfactory security and suitability requirements.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Positions may be filled as permanent, term, or temporary with a full-time or part-time work schedule.
Qualifications
  • GS-15: A qualified candidate must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-14 in the Federal service.
  • Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
    • Leading a team of engineering or scientific professionals to develop and/or manage technical programs and/or projects.
    • Developing engineering or scientific regulatory program guidance, procedures, and policies.
    • Researching and interpreting program-related laws, regulations, guidelines, and procedures.
    • Conducting independent engineering reviews and other technical assessments of projects.
Education
  • Basic Requirement for Physical Scientist (1301): Degree in physical science, engineering, or mathematics that included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science.
  • Basic Requirement for General Engineer (801): Degree in engineering, with a program accredited by ABET, or a combination of education and experience that furnished a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering.
