Position Overview:

The selected candidate will join the Manufacturing Technical Support team, based in San Diego, where they will provide technical guidance and support for the routine production of diagnostic products. This role is crucial for ensuring continuous improvement and reliability of various manufacturing processes, including Filling, Labeling, Packaging, and Oligosynthesis.

Career Development:
This role may evolve to include direct reports, necessitating involvement in human resources activities and performance management within the designated area.

Project Leadership:
The individual will spearhead their own projects while supervising engineers engaged in collaborative initiatives. They will work alongside Manufacturing Scientists and Quality Assurance teams on significant capital projects and process enhancement efforts.

Equipment Expertise:
The Principal Engineer will engage with both legacy and cutting-edge equipment, including automated systems and advanced analytical tools. Responsibilities will encompass various manufacturing technologies such as Filling, Labeling, Packaging, HPLC, and Oligosynthesis equipment.

Ideal Candidate Profile:
We seek an engineer with a robust foundation in Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, holding at least a bachelor's degree and possessing a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience. Candidates with hands-on experience in Filling and Labeling systems will be prioritized. Knowledge in automation engineering and HPLC, along with Oligosynthesis, is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead projects and troubleshooting initiatives involving Filling, Labeling, Bulk, HPLC, Oligosynthesis, and Packaging systems.
  • Ensure adherence to company and regulatory standards while optimizing staff and technical resources.
  • Promote a best-in-class environment for the development and regulation of biological products through data analysis and process understanding.
  • Establish technical engineering standards and resolve conflicts within assigned responsibilities.
  • Act as a consultant to management within specified technical areas.
  • Present technical project proposals to senior management and guide them to successful completion.
  • Engage frequently with senior technical peers to set performance standards.
  • Influence resource allocation at the departmental level.
  • Make independent decisions within defined responsibilities.
  • Provide status reports on budgets and schedules.
  • Be available for after-hours support as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
Lead initiatives to assess the feasibility of online instruments for monitoring critical attributes, conduct proof-of-concept studies, and identify opportunities for process optimization. Collaborate with various departments to support business case development and analyzer testing. Manage installation, qualification, and integration of new technologies into existing processes.

Qualifications:
  • Strong understanding of engineering principles.
  • Exceptional project management capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to simplify complex concepts.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to identify areas for improvement.
  • Experience interacting with administrative and human resources departments.
Education & Experience:
  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in engineering.
  • Professional registration or certifications as applicable.
  • At least 8 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with Filling and Labeling equipment is highly preferred.
  • Familiarity with Oligosynthesis, HPLC, and Packaging equipment is a plus.
  • Experience in the Biotech, Pharmaceutical, or Chemical sectors is preferred.
Equivalency:
Directly related experience or a combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the stated requirements.
