Position Overview:

The Women's Business Development Council (WBDC) is in search of a Community Engagement Director to lead the creation and execution of the organization's educational initiatives and community relations efforts. This role will report directly to the Marketing & Communications Director and will be pivotal in researching, tracking, documenting, and evaluating policy matters pertinent to WBDC's mission and its stakeholders, including women entrepreneurs and childcare providers.

Key Responsibilities:

Policy Monitoring:

  • Stay informed on legislative and policy developments affecting WBDC's stakeholders at various government levels.
  • Oversee the state budget process, focusing on funding allocations relevant to WBDC.
  • Foster and maintain relationships with municipal, state, and federal leaders to stay updated on policy changes.
  • Identify opportunities for the Executive Team to advocate for WBDC constituents on significant issues.
  • Prepare communication materials that effectively convey WBDC's objectives for external engagements.
  • Represent WBDC at relevant meetings and events, both virtual and in-person.
  • Compile lists of key policy contacts for outreach.
  • Explore avenues to expand WBDC's mission both locally and nationally.

Event Management:

  • Collaborate with elected officials and stakeholders to organize WBDC's annual Women-Owned Business Day at the State Capitol.
  • Assist in coordinating policy-focused roundtables and other events, including visits to WBDC clients with elected officials.

Community Relations:

  • Build and sustain partnerships with community organizations and represent WBDC in coalitions advocating for relevant policy issues.
  • Create and distribute educational materials that clarify complex legislation and its implications for small businesses.
  • Engage with WBDC constituencies to share legislative updates and priorities, guiding program development and grant proposals.
  • Collaborate with regional Program Managers to connect with community leaders and stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of experience in a related field, such as public policy, advocacy, or women's entrepreneurship.
  • Strong understanding of legislative processes and public communication strategies.
  • Excellent research and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret and summarize legislative documents.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities, fostering trusted relationships.
  • Strong writing, organizational, and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in project management with a keen attention to detail.
  • Bachelor's Degree preferred, or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge of women's entrepreneurship and childcare industries is advantageous.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish is a plus.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Availability for occasional evening and weekend work as required.
  • Must possess transportation for travel between locations.
