About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Vehicle Electronics Specialist to join our team at SEPTA. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for diagnosing and repairing complex electronic and logic equipment on our vehicles.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct diagnostic tests using advanced equipment such as oscilloscopes, diagnostic testers, and computer systems.
  • Interpret current and voltage waveforms and graphs to identify issues.
  • Perform operational tests on GPS, announcement, signage, video surveillance, propulsion, and charging systems to determine cause of malfunction.
  • Inspect, remove, disassemble, clean, repair, reassemble, adjust, and test modules and associated devices.
  • Monitor proper handling, removal, and installation of modules and report any issues to the Shop Superintendent.
  • Read, interpret, and work from drawings, schematics, instructions, and parts manuals.
  • Interpret circuit configurations and integrated circuit logic flow diagrams.
  • Replace and repair wiring and connectors.
  • Determine spare parts requirements and prepare requisitions using manuals, parts lists, etc.
  • Clean, organize, and clear work area following static-free regulations.
  • Maintain log of modules repaired and evaluate effectiveness of repairs through various diagnostic tests.
  • Improvise parts when replacement parts are unavailable.
  • Use all tools and equipment pertinent to the occupation.
Requirements
  • Knowledge of operation, testing, and repairing of microprocessor-based electronic and logic equipment acquired in technical school or equivalent.
  • At least 2 years of related experience and proficiency in working from and making mechanical, electrical, electronic, and logic drawings and schematics.
  • Ability to successfully complete vehicle operations courses, manufacturers, or SEPTA courses as required.
