Role Summary: As the Engineering Manager at Qualitel Corp., you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the engineering team within our specialized EMS division. Your leadership will be essential in managing engineering projects, processes, and initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate policies and strategic objectives. This position is pivotal in driving ongoing enhancements, refining production methodologies, and guaranteeing that our products adhere to the highest quality and reliability standards. You will also be instrumental in nurturing innovation and ensuring that our technological capabilities meet both current and future business demands.

Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Guide, mentor, and cultivate a skilled team of engineers and technicians.
  • Encourage a collaborative and high-performance environment within the engineering division.
  • Establish clear objectives and expectations, providing consistent feedback and performance assessments.
  • Oversee the Engineering Department, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and objectives across all projects and processes.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and formulate strategies to achieve new goals and objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to comprehend their technical needs and translate them into effective manufacturing processes.

Project Management:

  • Oversee multiple engineering projects from inception to production, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, procurement, and sales, to guarantee project success.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, identifying risks and opportunities.
  • Review, plan, and manage all aspects of project proposals, including resource allocation, performance metrics, data analysis, and budget oversight.
  • Delegate tasks efficiently and ensure timely project completion while maintaining high standards of quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of operational teams, cross-functional groups, and clients to ensure alignment and satisfaction.

Process Enhancement & Innovation:

  • Design and implement manufacturing processes that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Drive the equipment and process roadmap to maintain a competitive advantage in the industry.
  • Conduct process validation to ensure that all engineering and manufacturing practices meet the required quality, reliability, and efficiency standards.
  • Foster a culture of innovation within the engineering team.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.

Budget & Resource Oversight:

  • Develop and manage the engineering budget, ensuring optimal resource allocation.
  • Identify and acquire necessary tools, equipment, and software to support engineering functions.
  • Optimize resource utilization to maximize productivity and cost-effectiveness.

Key Process Management:

  • Manage New Product Introduction (NPI), including document control and ensuring the accuracy and timely updates of the Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Lead the release process for NPI projects, ensuring all documentation and processes are completed accurately and on schedule.
  • Oversee Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and related documentation processes, ensuring timely and accurate updates.
  • Manage the development and enhancement of operations for Circuit Card Assembly, including various soldering techniques and testing.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained to meet industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering roles within the electronics manufacturing sector, with a minimum of 3 years in a managerial capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading engineering teams and projects in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, including PCB assembly and surface-mount technology.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, IPC-A-610, and other relevant certifications.

Success Metrics:

Initial 3-6 Months:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Qualitel's engineering processes, products, and customer requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with your team and key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Evaluate current engineering projects and identify immediate risks or opportunities for enhancement.
  • Begin implementing process improvements and establish metrics for tracking progress.

6-12 Months:

  • Effectively manage multiple engineering projects, ensuring timely delivery and completeness.
  • Implement advanced process optimization initiatives, leveraging methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team, driving efficiency and innovation.
  • Establish a solid track record of meeting or exceeding quality and performance standards.

Beyond 12 Months:

  • Lead the engineering team towards achieving long-term corporate objectives.
  • Ensure that all engineering and manufacturing processes consistently meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Continue to drive innovation by staying updated with industry trends and implementing cutting-edge technologies.
