Role Summary: As the Engineering Manager at Qualitel Corp., you will be responsible for leading and managing the engineering team within our high-end, high-reliability EMS division. Core Responsibilities:

Leadership & Team Development:

  • Guide, mentor, and cultivate a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Encourage a collaborative and high-performance culture within the engineering department.
  • Establish clear objectives and expectations, providing ongoing feedback and performance assessments.
  • Oversee the Engineering Department, ensuring all initiatives and processes adhere to corporate policies and goals.
  • Identify areas for continuous improvement and formulate strategies to achieve new objectives.
  • Collaborate closely with clients to comprehend their technical needs and translate them into effective manufacturing processes.

Project Coordination:

  • Oversee multiple engineering projects from inception to production, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including production, quality assurance, procurement, and sales, to ensure project success.
  • Monitor and report on project status, risks, and opportunities.
  • Review, plan, and manage all aspects of project proposals, including resources, performance metrics, data analysis, and budget oversight.
  • Delegate tasks efficiently and ensure timely project completion while maintaining high quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of operations teams, cross-functional teams, and clients to maintain alignment and satisfaction.

Process Improvement & Innovation:

  • Develop and implement manufacturing processes that enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.
  • Drive the equipment/process roadmap to sustain a competitive advantage in the marketplace.
  • Conduct process validation to ensure that all engineering and manufacturing practices meet required quality, reliability, and efficiency standards.
  • Encourage a culture of innovation within the engineering team.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives utilizing Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.

Budget & Resource Management:

  • Formulate and manage the engineering budget, ensuring effective resource allocation.
  • Identify and acquire necessary tools, equipment, and software to support engineering functions.
  • Optimize resource utilization to maximize productivity and cost-effectiveness.

Key Process Oversight:

  • Manage New Product Introduction (NPI), including document control and ensuring the accuracy and timely updates of the Bill of Materials (BOM).
  • Lead the release process for NPI projects, ensuring all documentation and processes are completed accurately and punctually.
  • Oversee Engineering Change Orders (ECO) and related documentation processes, ensuring timely and accurate updates.
  • Manage the development and enhancement of operations for Circuit Card Assembly, including various soldering techniques and testing.
  • Ensure all equipment and tools are properly calibrated and maintained to meet industry standards.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related discipline.
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering roles within the electronics manufacturing sector, with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership capacity.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing engineering teams and projects in a dynamic manufacturing environment.
  • Strong understanding of electronics manufacturing processes, including PCB assembly and surface-mount technology (SMT).
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a focus on continuous improvement and process optimization.
  • Familiarity with quality standards such as ISO 9001, ISO 13485, AS9100, IPC-A-610, and other relevant certifications.

Success Factors:

Initial 3-6 Months:

  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of Qualitel's engineering processes, products, and customer requirements.
  • Build relationships with your team and key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Evaluate current engineering projects and identify immediate risks or opportunities for enhancement.
  • Begin implementing process improvements and establish metrics for tracking progress.

6-12 Months:

  • Effectively manage multiple engineering projects with teams, ensuring timely delivery and completeness.
  • Implement advanced process optimization initiatives, leveraging Lean, Six Sigma, or similar methodologies.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement within the engineering team, driving efficiency and innovation.
  • Establish a solid track record of meeting or exceeding quality and performance standards.

Beyond 12 Months:

  • Lead the engineering team to achieve long-term corporate objectives.
  • Ensure that all engineering and manufacturing processes consistently meet the highest standards of quality, reliability, and efficiency.
