Position Summary:

This role is essential in a drop-in child care environment designed to support the children of veterans, allowing them to attend necessary appointments. The age range of children in care spans from 6 weeks to 12 years, and up to 18 years for those with disabilities. The childcare attendant will function as an assistant educator within the VA Kids Care Program, tasked with adhering to all relevant regulations and operational procedures while ensuring that children are engaged, safe, and well-cared for.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the check-in and check-out process for children
  • Adhere to state-specific childcare ratios
  • Ensure the safety and welfare of children, including awareness of allergies, diaper changes, basic first aid, child engagement, and developmentally appropriate practices
  • Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of the facility
  • Follow all safety protocols, security measures, and confidentiality guidelines

Work Schedule:

  • Substitutes must be available to work between 7:15 AM and 5:30 PM, Monday through Friday, to cover for staff absences. The average workload is approximately 1387 hours annually (around 26 hours weekly).
  • No weekend or holiday shifts are required.
