Role Summary
This recruitment aims to establish a talent pool for future opportunities. The role involves providing essential support to teaching staff in daily operations while promoting best practices that ensure the health, safety, and educational development of children aged infant to 5 years enrolled in TCC's Early Learning Program.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily responsibilities of teaching staff.
- Support the health, safety, and educational needs of children in the Early Learning Program.
- Work collaboratively with children of various ages, developmental stages, and special needs.
- Implement developmentally appropriate practices to foster physical, emotional, social, and cognitive growth.
- Utilize respectful guidance techniques that honor each child's individuality.
- Collaborate with the Lead Teacher to plan and execute suitable curriculum for toddlers and preschoolers.
- Encourage language development and promote independence and self-help skills.
- Observe and document each child's development, discussing findings with the Lead Teacher.
- Participate actively as a member of a team-oriented staff.
- Attend staff meetings and professional development sessions.
- Refer developmental concerns and policy matters to the Lead Teacher or Program Manager.
- Adhere to established policies as outlined in the Early Learning Center Handbook.
- Supervise children in the absence of core teaching staff.
- Assist in kitchen or front office duties as required.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of six months of experience in an early childhood program or equivalent education and experience.
- Completion of 20 credits in early childhood education or a combination of education and experience.
- Experience in an Early Head Start Program is preferred.
Conditions of Employment
- Successful completion of a portable background check prior to employment.
- Valid Food Handlers Permit.
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as bending, reaching, sitting on the floor, and lifting children weighing up to 35 to 45 pounds.
- Certification in Bloodborne Pathogens training.
- Appreciation for diversity and commitment to cultural awareness in the workplace.
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Interested candidates are encouraged to submit a complete application package, which includes the Tacoma Community College online application. These positions are part-time and may require flexible hours based on the needs of the Center and child enrollment, with a maximum of 17 hours per week.
