Job Summary

The YMCA of Pierce and Kitsap Counties is seeking a dedicated and passionate Early Learning Assistant Teacher to join our team at the New Adventures Early Learning Center in Tacoma, WA.

Key Responsibilities
  • Curriculum Development: Assist in researching, planning, and implementing weekly emergent curriculum based on children's interests in various domains, including Art, Reading, Writing, Cooking, Science, Math, Music, and Movement.
  • Classroom Management: Maintain all DCYF licensing and Early Achiever standards within the classroom, ensuring a safe and healthy environment for children.
  • Assistance and Support: Assist the Lead Teacher in preparing and organizing the classroom and materials, as well as participating in child screenings, assessments, conferences, and portfolio construction.
  • Communication and Teamwork: Interact positively with all children to support their individual learning and emotional needs, and collaborate with the Lead Teacher and Center Directors to set children up for success.
  • Health and Safety: Oversee health habits in the classroom, administer first aid as needed, and check the indoor and outdoor environment for safety hazards.
Qualifications
  • Education: Must have an Early Childhood Education Short Certificate at a minimum, and a high school diploma or GED.
  • Experience: At least one year of experience in an Early Learning Center is required.
  • Certifications and Training: Possesses (or able to obtain) CPR, First Aid, TB Test, Food Handler's Card, Child Care Basic STARS, proof of MMR vaccine, and Merit account.
  • Personal Qualities: Must be flexible, adaptable, and committed to the mission and values of the YMCA, with a desire to have fun, engage with children, and inspire creativity.
Benefits
  • Competitive Salary: $17.50 to $19.50 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Full-Time Hours: Monday - Friday, 40 hours per week.
