Overview

The Retail Sales and Management Trainee role is designed to support our mission to deliver an exceptional shopping experience for our customers. In this position, Trainees engage in various sales, merchandising, and operational responsibilities as directed by store leadership. This role provides an opportunity to collaborate closely with the Store Manager to gain insights into the retail business and develop essential management skills.

Sales and Customer Engagement

  • Welcome customers with a warm and inviting demeanor, consistently prepared to provide outstanding service.
  • Address inquiries related to the store and its products.
  • Suggest, select, and assist in locating or obtaining products based on customer preferences.
  • Anticipate customer needs by recommending additional items and creating a personalized shopping experience.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and sales techniques, sharing insights with team members.
  • Stay informed about current promotions, payment policies, and security measures.
  • Meet or exceed personal sales goals as established by store management.
  • Deliver exceptional service across key areas of the store, including the sales floor and checkout.
  • Assist customers with trying on or fitting merchandise.
  • Process transactions and package purchases efficiently.
  • Prepare items for alterations as needed.
  • Be knowledgeable about exchange and return procedures.
  • Utilize the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to achieve objectives.
  • Meet or exceed performance standards in all customer engagement initiatives.
  • Facilitate special orders or coordinate with other locations to find desired products.
  • Build and maintain strong customer relationships to foster a loyal client base.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of customer service expectations to meet diverse customer needs.
  • Consistently uphold high standards of performance, regardless of management presence.

Team Recruitment, Training, and Development

  • Identify recruitment opportunities through various channels.
  • Maintain a positive and encouraging atmosphere on the sales floor.

Visual Merchandising

  • Showcase products effectively to maximize sales potential.
  • Stay updated on the product assortment.
  • Collaborate with team members and customers to gather feedback on product offerings.
  • Ensure the sales floor is well-organized and new merchandise is displayed appropriately.

Operational Duties

  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays, based on business needs.
  • Manage cash register operations, including cash handling and balancing drawers.
  • Recognize and address security risks and theft prevention measures.
  • Adhere to Loss Prevention guidelines and conduct regular checks.
  • Develop a strong understanding of Point of Sale (POS) procedures.
  • Execute all policies related to payments, exchanges, and Loss Prevention.
  • Perform merchandising tasks, including handling inventory and preparing displays.
  • Maintain a clean and organized store environment to support the company’s mission.
  • Provide feedback to management regarding merchandise handling issues.
  • Communicate any policy violations or concerns promptly and confidentially.
  • Comprehend and apply the company's Code of Ethics and policies.
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Internship Responsibilities

  • Complete required training modules as outlined in the Management Manual.
  • Submit regular reports and updates to management.
  • Gain a comprehensive understanding of the company’s products and sales strategies.
  • Implement knowledge by managing a specific product category and tracking results.
  • Inspire and lead the team by monitoring departmental performance.
  • Cultivate skills in recruitment, merchandising, and leadership.
  • Participate in monthly conference calls for ongoing development.
  • Take ownership of assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Uphold the mission by delivering high-quality customer service and fostering a positive team environment.
  • Engage in special projects and additional duties as required.

Supervisory Role

This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Education and Experience

Candidates should be pursuing a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; prior experience is not required.

The individual may occasionally need to sit and must be able to lift and move up to 30 lbs. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

The individual will typically work in a retail store setting with a moderate noise level.
