Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Fire Management Officer to join our team at Jefferson County, Colorado. The successful candidate will be responsible for leading and coordinating fire management efforts, ensuring the safety of our community and the effective management of wildland fires.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Fire Management Plans: Establish and maintain a unified and coordinated operational structure and process that integrates all critical stakeholders in support of fire management and suppression.
  • Coordinate Fuel Mitigation Projects: Plan, prioritize, and implement fuel and other associated mitigation projects in support of the Jefferson County Hazard Mitigation Plan and County's Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
  • Facilitate Planning and Evaluation: Facilitate planning, exercise, and evaluation of the Wildfire Annex, CWPP, Fire Operation Plan, Fire Management Office plan, and related standard operation plans, policies, and guidance.
  • Manage Fire Management Budget: Manage the fire management budget, administer grants for planning and implementation of hazardous fuels projects, and develop grant applications with JCSO grants specialists.
  • Oversee Incident Response: Oversee all-risk, wildland, and prescribed fire incidents in Jefferson County, coordinate and collaborate with outside entities, and make operational decisions regarding JCSO fire warden responsibilities and authorities.
  • Maintain Certification and Training Records: Maintain certification and training records for county employees and volunteers, initiate and review National Wildfire Coordinating Group (NWCG) Position Task Books, and collaborate with partner agencies to host annual and specialized wildfire courses.
  • Monitor and Report on Fire Weather and Fuels: Monitor and report on fire weather, fuels, and other related data, and recommend restrictions/bans based on local and regional fuel analysis and other fire-related variables.
  • Coordinate with Countywide Fuels Crew: Coordinate with any countywide fuels crew or operations, assign fuels projects in conjunction with local and county CWPP and/or HMP projects, complete payroll documentation for fuels crew, and conduct personnel reviews.
  • Facilitate Committees and Meetings: Facilitate, attend, and serve on committees and meetings with fire districts, area cooperators, the Board of County Commissioners, and other related agencies within and around Jefferson County.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience: Minimum five years of work experience
  • Certifications: G300 Intermediate ICS, G400 Advance ICS, G-191 INCS/EOC Interface, IMT-0305, M-410 Facilitative Instructor, NWCG Incident Commander Type 5 (ICT5), NWCG Single Resource Boss (Minimum of two held at hire), and JCSO's Emergency Vehicle Operations Course
  • Preferred Certifications: National Wildland Fire Coordinating Group (N.W.C.G.): Type 2 Burn Boss (RXB2), Type 3 Incident Commander (ICT3); Division Supervisor (DIVS), Task Force Leader (TFLD), Strike Team Leader (STLD)
