Position Overview

The Fire Management Officer plays a crucial role in overseeing fire safety and management operations. This position is responsible for the following:

  • Developing and sustaining a cohesive operational framework that integrates all essential stakeholders involved in fire management and suppression duties.
  • Planning, coordinating, and prioritizing fuel reduction initiatives that align with the Hazard Mitigation Plan and Community Wildfire Protection Plan.
  • Facilitating the development, execution, and assessment of wildfire management strategies and standard operating procedures.
  • Administering the fire management budget and managing grants for hazardous fuel reduction projects.
  • Supervising all-risk fire incidents, making critical operational decisions, and coordinating effective responses.
  • Maintaining training records, collaborating on training opportunities, and conducting wildfire training sessions.
  • Tracking and analyzing fire-related data to recommend necessary restrictions based on findings.
  • Coordinating operations of fuel management crews, assigning tasks, and providing training and professional development.
  • Participating in committees and meetings with fire districts, partners, and relevant agencies.
  • Performing additional responsibilities as needed.

Qualifications Required within Two Years of Employment: Various Incident Command System certifications, Facilitative Instructor certification, and Emergency Vehicle Operations Course completion.

Preferred Qualifications: Additional certifications from the Wildland Fire Coordinating Group.

Educational Background: Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field.

Professional Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant work experience.

Certifications Required: Various Incident Command System certifications.

Language Proficiency: Proficiency in English.
