Position Overview

Library Systems & Services is in search of a dedicated and skilled Library Technician to enhance our operations. This full-time, permanent role is pivotal in ensuring the smooth functioning of library services within a vibrant and esteemed organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Cataloging and Classification: Assist in the organization and classification of library materials in accordance with established protocols and systems such as MARC and OCLC.
  • Database Management: Perform bibliographic searches and maintain library databases to guarantee accurate and current records.
  • Circulation Oversight: Manage circulation desk functions, including the lending and returning of materials, aiding patrons in resource location, and overseeing patron accounts.
  • Reference Assistance: Offer reference and research support to library users, guiding them in utilizing library resources and addressing their inquiries.
  • Collection Management: Organize and maintain library collections, ensuring materials are properly shelved and readily accessible.
  • Exhibits Coordination: Assist in the creation and arrangement of library exhibits and displays to showcase collections and resources.
  • Interlibrary Loan Management: Process interlibrary loan requests, ensuring timely tracking and return of materials.
  • Digital Project Assistance: Support digital library initiatives, including the scanning and digitization of materials for online availability.
  • Outreach Support: Contribute to library outreach programs, including conducting workshops and instructional sessions for users.
  • Equipment Maintenance: Carry out routine maintenance and troubleshooting of library technologies and equipment.

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years in a library environment.
  • Skills:
    • Proficient in library cataloging systems (e.g., MARC, OCLC).
    • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and library management software.
    • Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
    • Exceptional customer service skills, with the capacity to engage effectively with patrons.
    • Able to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
    • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred:

  • Education: Associate's degree or higher in Library Science or a related discipline.
  • Experience: Background in a medical or academic library setting.
  • Skills:
    • Familiarity with digital library technologies and archiving practices.
    • Experience with interlibrary loan systems (e.g., ILLiad).
    • Knowledge of medical and health-related databases.
    • Able to conduct instructional sessions and library orientations.
