Position Overview

Library Systems & Services is seeking a dedicated Catalog Specialist to enhance the discoverability of a distinguished collection at a prominent institution. The Catalog Specialist will be tasked with generating bibliographic entries in alignment with both national and international guidelines, as well as adhering to local protocols and quality standards. This role is crucial in alleviating the cataloging backlog by ensuring that previously unprocessed materials are made accessible.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Develop bibliographic entries in accordance with RDA, DCRM, MARC, BIBCO/CONSER standards.
  • Implement original and copy cataloging processes.
  • Conduct descriptive and subject cataloging, including the assignment of LCC and NLM classifications.
  • Utilize the MeSH Thesaurus for subject term assignments.
  • Maintain consistency and high quality in record creation.
  • Collaborate with project team members to ensure compliance with established standards.

Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in Library and Information Science.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in full-level original cataloging.
  • Proven experience in cataloging and developing authority records in accordance with national and international standards, along with familiarity with subject-specific classification systems.
  • Experience with OCLC and Library Services Platforms, preferably Ex Libris Alma.

Preferred Skills:

  • Familiarity with MeSH subject headings.
  • Experience with the Ex Libris-Alma Library Services Platform.
