Senior Protection and Control Engineer

Walnut Creek, California, United States Sargent & Lundy Full time

This role provides an exceptional opportunity to leverage your expertise in protective relaying and control systems for both distribution and high voltage substations.

As a Senior Protection & Control Engineer, your primary responsibility will be to evaluate the work of your peers.

Your evaluations will focus on protection and control schematics, as well as wiring diagrams, for a diverse array of substation modifications and enhancements tailored to meet client specifications.

You will be tasked with assessing protective relaying strategies, which encompass the selection of relays, control systems, and communication equipment, alongside SCADA and telecommunication configurations, including I/O assignments and connection diagrams.

Your assignments will be intellectually stimulating, involving the investigation, troubleshooting, and resolution of various substation protection and control challenges.

You will conduct thorough reviews of designs created by others, which will include single line diagrams, substation relaying and metering diagrams (A.C. schematic diagrams), and D.C. schematic diagrams.
Additionally, you will perform independent evaluations of work completed by your colleagues.

This position also allows for professional growth through collaborative learning, as you will share knowledge with other seasoned engineers via Sargent & Lundy’s established processes and “Communities of Practice.”

As a mentor, you will guide the development of junior engineers, fostering their skills and expertise.

There may be opportunities for travel to client and vendor locations for design evaluations, as well as project sites for construction coordination and field verification of designs.

This position supports a hybrid work model, allowing you to work in the office three days a week while enjoying the flexibility of remote work for two days. Depending on your location, a generous relocation package may be available.
