Position Overview:

This role is designed for a mid-level engineer specializing in control systems and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will possess a robust technical skill set to execute engineering tasks independently, with some guidance. A solid understanding of stage-gated industrial projects and excellent communication abilities in various formats are essential. Our mid-level engineers are expected to operate autonomously while recognizing when to seek additional expertise.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver instrumentation engineering support for a range of capital and maintenance projects.
  • Define project scopes during the detailed design phase and contribute to project planning and deliverable lists.
  • Assess and provide feedback on basic project timelines.
  • Create project P&IDs of moderate complexity.
  • Draft procurement specifications, documentation, and data sheets with varying levels of complexity.
  • Conduct thorough vendor document evaluations.
  • Establish engineering budgets for smaller projects.
  • Generate basic Total Installed Cost (TIC) estimates and Material Take-Offs (MTO).
  • Manage project scope and budget while adhering to engineering budgets.
  • Prepare detailed specifications and construction packages.
  • Compose comprehensive construction scope of work documents for projects of basic to moderate complexity.
  • Conduct Factory and Site Acceptance Tests (FAT/SAT) on vendor equipment, with potential travel requirements.
  • Perform quality assurance checks on personal work.
  • Comply with Anvil's Project Services Quality System (PSQS).
  • Work with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Collaborate within a small team of engineers and designers, guiding the design team in developing construction work packages.
  • Engage with other technical resource groups and project management to fulfill project requirements.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with vendor and client representatives.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Proficient in reading and developing Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Experience in as-built control and instrumentation systems in the field, ensuring accurate documentation.
  • Ability to specify and size instrumentation for various industrial control applications.
  • Capability to identify unique solutions for instrumentation and control challenges.
  • Knowledge in specifying and sizing control valves and regulators.
  • Understanding of material and alloy considerations for instruments in diverse industrial processes.
  • Expertise in designing infrastructure for industrial communication and control networks.
  • Experience in specifying and designing wiring and conduit methods for hazardous classified areas.
  • Ability to prepare detailed designs in compliance with relevant codes and client standards.
  • Integrate control strategies with electrical motor controls.
  • Familiarity with HMI, PLC, and DCS hardware specifications.
  • Basic understanding of control panel layout and wiring considerations.
  • Working knowledge of industrial equipment and its implications for instrument design.
Additional Skills:
  • Familiarity with stage-gated project processes.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks based on team leader guidance.
  • Strong teamwork skills, both in-person and remotely.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Experience in developing engineering budgets and contributing to project schedules.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong work ethic.
  • Able to evaluate field equipment and perform physical tasks as necessary.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Applications.
Education and Certifications:
  • B.S. in Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or Control Systems Engineering is required.
  • 3-15 years of relevant professional experience in the oil and gas or related sectors is required.
  • P.E. or Professional Engineer certification in Control Systems Engineering is preferred.
  • ISA or TUV certification in Functional Safety is preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to perform computer work for extended periods.
  • Frequent use of hands for typing and phone communication.
  • Occasional bending, lifting, and reaching required.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 lbs when necessary.
  • Capability to work in industrial settings, including climbing ladders and navigating uneven surfaces while wearing required PPE.
