Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Corrosion Engineer to join our team at Burns & McDonnell. As a key member of our engineering team, you will play a critical role in designing and developing world-class corrosion protection systems for our clients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead intermediate to complex corrosion engineering and cathodic protection design projects with moderate to limited supervision.
  • Collaborate with project teams to develop technical drawing details, including site plans, typical details, bill of materials, equipment schedules, and other drawing-related tasks.
  • Develop studies, plans, criteria, specifications, calculations, evaluations, design documents, performance assessments, integrated systems analysis, cost estimates, budgets, and associated tasks related to the planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of cathodic protection and AC mitigation facilities/systems.
  • Apply technical standards and procedures in compliance with federal code and client specifications consistent with the task performed.
  • Apply company quality control processes to all work and projects assigned.
  • Maintain a collaborative spirit in working with other teams and global practices within the company.
  • Review and edit engineering reports; consult with field staff regarding revisions in analysis or modifications of system designs as appropriate.
  • Perform economic evaluations of alternative methods of cathodic protection and corrosion control. Assist in cost estimation and detailed proposal development.
  • Interface with clients and communicate in a professional manner.
  • Seek to understand client interests and drivers through normal client contact and through interaction and communication with project leadership.
  • Apply problem-solving approaches and engineering theory to all project work and problems encountered specifically in the area of corrosion. Knowledge of engineering designs, principles, and practices.
  • Perform field inspections, measurements, or calculations for public and private clients.
Requirements
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional experience in a related field.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) and/or NACE certifications strongly preferred.
  • Industry and/or community involvement.
  • Strong knowledge in standard corrosion engineering techniques, principles, and procedures.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, AutoCAD, MicroStation, BIM (Revit), Civil 3D, PLS, PLS-CADD, RISA-3D, MathCADD, and civil analysis programs.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate and empower, to be a strong communicator able to take initiative and function independently.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with goals and ambitions to mentor and train assistant-level engineers.
  • Provide technical supervision and technical assistance to other teams and global practices within the company.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations; draft reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals; effectively present information to individuals or groups (management, clients, customers, general public) and respond to questions.
  • Ability to perform arithmetic calculations and apply basic statistical, algebraic, and geometric concepts.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where limited standardization exists and interpret various instructions in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Perform tests required to determine the condition of soil, water, underground, or submerged structures. Recognizing and responding to abnormal measurements or conditions.

Compensation Range

$140,000 - $230,000

The expected compensation range for this position is based on a number of factors, including but not limited to: individual education, qualifications, prior work experience, and work location. The total annual compensation package will consist of a base salary and eligibility to participate in our discretionary year-end incentive bonus program.
