Position Summary

The Clinical Coordinator embodies the core mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare, adheres to our ethical standards, and complies with all relevant policies and regulations.

This role requires an experienced Registered Nurse who, alongside delivering direct patient care, is responsible for promoting a collaborative approach to patient management, optimizing patient flow, overseeing staffing, and resolving issues during assigned shifts.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee unit operations during shifts in accordance with established policies and regulatory standards.
  • Manage staffing assignments to ensure high-quality and cost-effective patient care.
  • Guide nursing staff and support personnel in delivering patient care during specific shifts.
  • Lead initiatives and participate in committees or task forces at the unit, departmental, or hospital level.
  • Engage with patients and their families regarding nursing care.
  • Implement action plans to ensure safe, quality, and efficient patient care.
  • Ensure the safety and security of patients, families, and staff.
  • Provide direct patient care as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
  • Clinical Duties:
    • Exhibit clinical proficiency.
    • Conduct ongoing assessments of patients and their families' biopsychosocial and educational needs.
    • Respond appropriately to the needs of patients and their families.
    • Monitor and document patient responses to treatments and progress towards outcomes.
    • Adopt a patient-first and cost-effective approach in managing resources.
    • Complete quality improvement activities for the assigned shift.
    • Address critical situations involving patients, staff, and visitors, consulting with management as necessary.
  • Professional Development:
    • Maintain a professional demeanor in appearance and conduct.
    • Advocate for patients, colleagues, and the nursing profession.
    • Demonstrate accountability and compassion towards all stakeholders.
    • Represent the nursing profession positively in various forums.
    • Integrate theoretical knowledge with clinical expertise in decision-making.
    • Meet regulatory and mandatory requirements consistently.
    • Engage in personal development and continuing education related to nursing specialties.
  • Leadership Responsibilities:
    • Align with organizational culture and understand the impact of team dynamics.
    • Ensure a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for patients and staff.
    • Analyze daily operations and recommend necessary changes.
    • Anticipate staffing needs for future shifts and arrange coverage accordingly.
    • Optimize the use of staff time and resources effectively.
    • Facilitate communication of incidents with relevant personnel.
    • Support the implementation of Northwestern Memorial Healthcare's philosophy and objectives.
    • Foster a collaborative atmosphere among patients, staff, and visitors.
    • Identify and communicate trends to management for ongoing improvement.
    • Provide input on budgetary considerations, particularly regarding staffing and cost management.
    • Build interdepartmental relationships to enhance patient care.
  • Educational Contributions:
    • Identify and communicate staff development needs.
    • Orient new staff to the Clinical Coordinator and Charge roles.
    • Serve as a resource for nursing staff.
    • Contribute to the orientation of new unit staff.
  • Research Engagement:
    • Ensure research activities are conducted during assigned shifts.
    • Participate in nursing research initiatives.

Qualifications:

Required:
  • Active Registered Professional Nurse license in the State of Illinois.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Bachelor's degree in nursing from an accredited institution or equivalent experience.
Preferred:
  • Specialty certification in the relevant clinical area.
  • Additional clinical experience in other areas of nursing.
