About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Surgical Tech I to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Surgical Tech I, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms and providing exceptional patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the surgical team during operative procedures, maintaining a sterile environment and ensuring the proper handling of instruments and equipment.
  • Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment, ordering and restocking as needed.
  • Participate in the preparation and sterilization of equipment and supplies, adhering to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the circulating RN to maintain a sterile field and ensure the proper use of equipment and supplies.
  • Perform sponge, instrument, and needle counts, as well as assist with gowning and gloving surgeons.
  • Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures and assist with the transportation and positioning of patients.
  • Operate specialty equipment after receiving specific training and assist with the general cleaning duties of the department.
  • Perform equipment checks and assist with clerical work, including record keeping and data gathering.
Requirements
  • Current licensure as a Licensed Practical Nurse, completion of a Surgical Technology program, completion of a Registered Nurse program, or completion of a summer surgical tech extern program.
  • Two years of previous scrub experience or completion of a surgical technology program.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and push/pull heavy loaded carts up to 200 pounds.
  • Capable of prolonged periods of standing and walking, with visual, hearing, and oral acuity, as well as manual dexterity and technical ability.

This role is a non-exempt position, working 40 hours per week, with a shift schedule of days. The company is WVU Medicine, and the cost center is 72 UHC Nursing Operating Room.
