About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Surgical Technologist to join our team at WVU Medicine. As a Surgical Technologist, you will play a critical role in providing direct patient care and assisting the surgical team in the operating room.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare for surgical procedures by setting up the operating room and ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are available.
  • Assist the surgical team by passing instruments, sponges, and other necessary items during procedures.
  • Maintain aseptic technique and follow standard precautions to prevent infection and ensure patient safety.
  • Transport patients, equipment, and supplies as needed.
  • Collaborate with the surgical team to ensure smooth and efficient surgical procedures.
Requirements
  • Graduate from a Surgical Technology Program.
  • Must be certified surgical technologist (ORT).
  • Must have CPR certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Five years' scrub experience.
  • Designed, implemented, and educated staff on two or more in-services.

The Surgical Technologist will work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to provide high-quality patient care. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively under pressure, prioritize tasks, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing nursing duties throughout the work shift.
  • Must be able to lift, move and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Must be able to read and write legibly in English.
  • Hearing within normal range is required (ie., to assess breath sounds, bowel sounds, apical pulse, monitors, etc.)
  • Visual acuity must be within normal range.
  • Must be able to perform heavy work
Skills and Abilities
  • Performs technical skills required to prepare for surgical procedures. Assists other perioperative team members in the care of the surgical patient.
Additional Information

This is a full-time position with a scheduled weekly hours of 40. The shift is non-exempt and the company is WVU Medicine. The cost center is 72 UHC Nursing Operating Room and the address is 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, West Virginia.
