Job Summary

The Division Administrator serves as the business, financial, and administrative link between the Division and the Department of Medicine at Columbia University. Reporting to the Division Chief and the Department Administrator, this role is responsible for the financial reporting of the divisional accounts, budgeting, and financial projections. The successful candidate will have a strong background in finance, administration, and leadership, with experience in managing human resources, budgeting, and financial analysis.

Key Responsibilities

Advise Division Chief and other leadership on strategic matters related to program planning, faculty recruitment, and utilization of funding and other resources.
Supervise a financial and grants management personnel, and take hands-on role in training and developing staff.
Direct all aspects of sponsored research administration in the Division, including pre- and post-award support and effort reporting.
Oversee all aspects of divisional budgeting and financial projections, including budget development and reconciliation of divisional budget projections with general ledger.

Requirements

Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and experience, plus five-seven years of related experience.
Experience must include at least three years in the areas of budgeting, accounts payable, clinical operation, revenue cycle, and research management.
Advanced skill level in Excel and strong conceptual, financial, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Must demonstrate outstanding communication and interpersonal skills to act as an effective representative of the Division and the Division Chief at the highest organizational levels.

Preferred Qualifications

MBA or MHA strongly preferred.
Experience in an academic and/or clinical setting that includes administration of federal grants.
Relevant experience managing a large division in an academic medical center, or in a similar environment.
Knowledge of university systems.
