Job OverviewPosition Summary

Sign-On Bonus: $6,000

The Core Laboratory at University Hospitals is responsible for various testing areas, including chemistry, urinalysis, coagulation, and hematology.

Role Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Technologist is tasked with executing high and moderate complexity tests with exceptional skill and accuracy. This role requires the ability to independently manage all aspects of the blood bank. The technologist will also assist with projects and undertake additional responsibilities as directed, while adhering to all institutional policies and procedures. Furthermore, this position includes the training of new personnel and students.

General Requirements

  • Perform other assigned duties as necessary.
  • Adhere to all policies and standards set forth by the institution.
  • Refer to departmental documentation provided during orientation for specific duties and responsibilities.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations regarding the secure handling of Protected Health Information (PHI) for patients, including annual training and adherence to the institution's Code of Conduct and policies.
Qualifications

Educational Background

  • Preferred: Bachelor's degree in medical technology or an associate's degree in medical laboratory technology.
  • Acceptable: Bachelor's degree in biological or chemical sciences. Must meet CLIA88 requirements for performing complexity testing.

Professional Experience

  • Previous experience in a similar role is preferred.

Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment is required.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously is necessary.
  • Presentation and conflict resolution skills are important.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Flexibility in work assignments is required.
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications, particularly Excel.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat Professional is necessary.

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT-ASCP) or equivalent is required.

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent standing and walking.
  • Occasional sitting.
  • Regular lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent pushing and pulling of up to 50 lbs.
  • Occasional climbing and balancing.
  • Frequent stooping, kneeling, and crouching.
  • Constant hand-eye coordination and sensory engagement.
