As a Part-time Evening-shift Clinical Laboratory Specialist, your responsibilities will include: conducting and interpreting tests across all complexity levels, and correlating abnormal laboratory findings with pathological conditions.

Key Responsibilities:
Adhere to laboratory protocols for specimen management, testing procedures, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.
Conduct laboratory tests in compliance with established standards.
Maintain awareness of regulatory requirements relevant to your role.
Follow quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed.

Take ownership of quality control and assurance issues related to your specific duties.

Ensure instruments and equipment are maintained according to manufacturer specifications.
Maintain accurate documentation practices and keep clear, legible records.
Participate in proficiency testing in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations, including

analyzing proficiency survey samples as if they were patient specimens, ensuring no communication with other CLIA laboratories, and maintaining accurate record retention and documentation.

Engage in continuing education, professional growth, and required annual competency assessments.

Follow established laboratory policies when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.

Identify issues that may negatively impact test performance or result reporting, taking corrective action or promptly notifying the appropriate supervisory personnel.

Exhibit sound judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Propose solutions and enhancements.
Document all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance criteria.

May serve as an educator, providing instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory test procedures to students, staff, residents, etc.

Additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


A Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.

OR Meets the CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses.
Verification of education is required.

International education must be translated into English and validated for equivalency by an HHS-approved agency or a nationally recognized organization.


Certifications:


Preferred certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or eligibility for certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).

Competencies (Complexity of Work): Requires critical thinking, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
Must thrive in a high-pressure environment and respond appropriately.

Experience:
No prior experience required; Blood Bank experience is strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:
Visual acuity for examining specimens under a microscope.
Ability to distinguish colors, hues, saturation, and tones.
Fine motor skills and manual dexterity for handling specimens and laboratory equipment.
May require prolonged standing.
Light lifting may be necessary.
Potential exposure to hazardous materials, biohazards, and chemicals.

Personal Protective Equipment:
Adhere to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
