As a day shift Clinical Laboratory Specialist, you will conduct specialized analyses to assess hemostasis and thrombosis, hemoglobinopathies, and various body fluids, collaborating closely with Hematopathologists to deliver exceptional patient care for intricate medical conditions.


Your key responsibilities include:

  • Executing and interpreting tests across all complexity levels. Correlating abnormal laboratory findings with pathological conditions. Evaluating the accuracy of test results and determining the necessity for additional testing through quality control monitoring and verification.

The ideal candidate possesses:

  • A solid understanding of the scientific principles underlying laboratory testing, along with technical, procedural, and problem-solving skills. A bachelor's or associate degree in medical laboratory science is required. If a bachelor's degree in chemistry or biological science has been obtained, prior exposure to hematology principles or experience in a clinical laboratory is essential. Knowledge of cell identification and coagulation is also necessary. A self-motivated individual who thrives in a collaborative team setting.

We are specifically seeking a Clinical Laboratory Specialist or MLT with relevant clinical laboratory testing experience for this position.Job Responsibilities:

  • Adhering to laboratory protocols for specimen management, testing procedures, reporting, and maintaining patient test result records.
  • Conducting laboratory tests in compliance with established standards.
  • Keeping abreast of regulatory requirements pertinent to specific job functions.
  • Following quality control policies, documenting all quality control activities, instrument calibrations, and maintenance performed.
  • Taking initiative regarding any quality control or assurance issues related to job responsibilities.
  • Maintaining laboratory instruments and equipment according to manufacturer specifications.
  • Ensuring proper documentation practices and maintaining clear, legible records.
  • Participating in proficiency testing in accordance with Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) regulations.
  • Engaging in continuing education, professional growth, and required annual competency assessments.
  • Following established laboratory policies and procedures when test systems do not meet acceptable performance levels.
  • Identifying issues that may negatively impact test performance or result reporting and addressing them or notifying appropriate supervisory personnel.
  • Exercising sound judgment, analytical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Proposing solutions and enhancements.
  • Documenting all corrective actions taken when test systems deviate from established performance specifications.
  • May serve as an educator, providing instruction and training in theory, technical skills, safety protocols, and laboratory test protocols to students and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education:

  • A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological, or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
  • OR meets CLIA qualifications for high complexity testing personnel grandfathering clauses.
  • Diploma and/or transcripts must be provided and verified.
  • Education obtained outside the United States requires diploma/transcripts translated into English and proof of foreign equivalency from an HHS approved agency or a nationally recognized organization.
Certifications:

  • Certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or eligibility for certification preferred, from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologists (AMT).
Competencies (Complexity of Work):
  • Requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Must be capable of functioning in a high-pressure environment and taking appropriate actions.
Work Experience:

  • No prior experience required.
Physical Requirements:

  • Visual acuity to examine specimens under a microscope.
  • Ability to distinguish color, hue, saturation, and tones.
  • Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to handle specimens and laboratory equipment.
  • May require prolonged standing and light lifting.
  • Potential exposure to hazardous materials, biohazards, and chemicals.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Adheres to standard precautions using personal protective equipment as necessary.
