Role Summary:
The Senior Project Cost Accountant plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial integrity of assigned projects. This position involves maintaining precise and comprehensive records of all financial elements related to the projects, reviewing incurred costs, and providing detailed insights. The individual will manage daily operations concerning project activities, including invoicing, budget reconciliation, identifying discrepancies, and collaborating with the operations team to address gross margin issues. The ideal candidate will possess a strong accounting background in the construction or large-scale restoration sector, demonstrate exceptional attention to detail, and have a solid understanding of ERP systems. This role is highly visible and requires a strong leader capable of prioritizing tasks, planning effectively, and communicating proficiently with all levels of the Operations Team, including Project Directors, Regional Directors, and Vice Presidents, as well as vendors and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee project progress from initiation to completion.
  • Proactively identify and collaborate with the project team to resolve issues.
  • Assist in developing project budgets that align with overall financial objectives.
  • Analyze cost variances and discrepancies, offering insights and recommendations to project managers.
  • Communicate any concerns or issues to project management and accounting leadership.
  • Review subcontractor work orders and payment applications for compliance.
  • Monitor and track project expenses, including direct and indirect costs, labor, and materials.
  • Process client payment applications and invoices.
  • Conduct project close-out financial and administrative activities.
  • Prepare detailed project analyses for operations and finance management as needed.
  • Provide comprehensive financial analysis and commentary on project costs as requested.
  • Maintain proactive communication across all company levels.
  • Perform cost reconciliations of projects against adjuster's reports.
  • Support internal and external audits by supplying necessary documentation and reconciliations related to project costs.
  • Assist in producing Work in Progress Schedules.
  • Support team members in enhancing quality control measures.
  • Execute additional duties and tasks as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years in accounting, cost accounting, or related fields, preferably within the construction industry or a comparable sector.

Skills:

  • Familiarity with generally accepted accounting principles and accounting software.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective interaction with accountants, clients, and senior management.
  • Self-motivated and proactive approach.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills to manage and prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment and adapt to rapid changes.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with other Microsoft Office products.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
